My passion for photography was ignited in my teens when I
discovered the street artist Slinkachu whilst researching for a GCSE
Art project. His humorous yet thought-provoking photographs of
miniature figures installed in public spaces inspired me to create my
own photographic scenarios. It was my first exploration of using scale
and perspective to tell a story through photography and I was hooked.
I knew what career I wanted to pursue.
I began my training at college, which gave me a sound foundation in
technical skills. It was here that I discovered a love of pack shot
photography, as I enjoy the precision it demands. I also began to
develop my skills in the studio, using photographic equipment and
lighting effectively to enhance the subject. The creativity of
composing a shot will forever be exciting to me.
My creativity was nurtured at university, as I was encouraged to
challenge myself and think 'outside the box' in my work. I developed a
high level of proficiency in editing and use of technology to
manipulate photographs. Throughout my studies I sought
opportunities to use my skills in a range of different contexts and
gained experience in product, fashion and event photography. My
other passion is music and I love combining the two art forms,
shooting at gigs and capturing the energy and atmosphere of live
events.
In my career so far, I have undertaken freelance photography work
and full-time employment at a small vegan food company as their sole
photographer. The world of food photography has opened a whole new
area of skill and expertise for me. I am currently Head of Photography
and Media at 'Pure Kitchen' where I am responsible for all
photography and video material, brand design, marketing and
promotions.
I want my photographs to be bold and exciting, whether it be person
or product. I aim to engage and transport the spectator to a different
place or viewpoint.
